VIVAnews - Manchester United has locked the Premier League title this season. For the veteran Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, 19th league title this feels more special.
MU managed to lock the Premier League title this season after a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers, Saturday, May 14, 2011. One further point to make the Red Devils step was overtaken by its nearest competitor, Chelsea.
MU is now in top position with a collection of 77 points from 37 matches. While Chelsea are second with 70 points from 36 collection game.
Not easy for Chelsea to pick a point at home to Blackburn. Compete at Ewood Park, Manchester United had left behind goal by Brett Emerton in the 20th minute.
New MU is able to equalize in the second round. Wayne Rooney's penalty on 73 minutes to change the score 1-1 which lasted until the fight was over.
"This season the league is better. All the teams from bottom to top board outdo each other. It gives a more interesting spectacle for the fans," Ferdinand said as quoted by Sky Sports, Saturday, May 14, 2011.
Last season, Manchester United also played a 0-0 draw when they travel to Ewood Park. However, an additional one point was enough for United to pursue his closest rivals Chelsea. The Blues finally won after winning a point above Manchester United.
"We failed last season with one point difference and here we lose the title after a 0-0 draw. So very happy to finally win the title this season here," said Ferdinand.
